Civil Air Patrol cadets and senior members from across the Dakotas, Minnesota, Nebraska, Kansas and Texas will gather at Camp Rapid to learn emergency services and leadership skills.

The Joint Dakota Emergency Services Encampment runs July 12-21. Cadets (ages 12-18) and senior members (18 and above) will then practice their new skills July 18-20 in Custer at a South Dakota wing search and rescue exercise.

The North and South Dakota wings of the CAP jointly put on the encampment each year, alternating between Camp Rapid and Camp Grafton, N.D.

The 10-day encampment teaches new cadets and other CAP members leadership and practical search and rescue skills.

Approximately 100 cadets and senior members are expected to attend this year’s encampment. Parents, friends, the media and the general public can follow events at the encampment on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/CAPJDE.
